I recently styled a seaside-themed wedding for a very special couple – my brother-in-law Brian and his beautiful, bubbly new Bride Claire.
Being an attendee and stylist of a wedding is really special but sometimes can be a bit tricky but this worked out like a dream because we were all heading down to West Cork for a few days so I had access to the venue the day before to set up.
The setting for this wedding couldn’t have been more fabulous and without doubt was one of the most amazing weddings I’ve been to.
Claire, a Cork native, scouted out the stunning venue for their Humanist Ceremony, The Rectory in Glandore which is perched high up on the rugged cliffs in West Cork with the most stunning views of the bay. Philip Daly captured some beautiful moments of the day.
Thankfully the unreliable Irish weather held up and the sun shone down on us all as we sat through the beautiful ceremony against the backdrop of Glandore Bay.
The reception was held at the Dunmore House Hotel on the shores of Clonakilty Bay. The remarkable views of the sea was the obvious inspiration behind the design for this wedding. ‘Don’t gild the lily’ was a phrase that came to mind when I began designing the tablescapes for the wedding. No need for florals or too much fuss when you have nature at its very best right outside the window.
Centrepieces of pebbles, shells and sea urchins gathered by Claire, Brian and their lovely friends and family over the preceeding months were strewn across mirrored chargers reflecting the twinkling candlelight right through to the wee hours. Little wooden light houses, boats and other seaside-inspired props were added and lots and lots of candles. Beautiful shells sat on the napkins at each place setting as a little memento of the day for guests.
The amazing cake featured a sand-like base made out of demerara brown sugar with the couple’s initials carved out. This was a huge talking point at the wedding!
A ‘Message in a Bottle’ style guest book table was set up outside the banquet room where guests wrote their well wishes on organic vellum scrolls and popped them into the bottle for Brian & Claire to read on their first anniversary.
What a fabulous few days we had celebrating with Brian & Claire in a truly magical setting! Huge congratulations to you both! x
