I thought I’d share a few pics from the shoot I just did with the ever so talented Christina of Brosnan Photographic which was recently featured on one of my favourite wedding sites One Fab Day. The shoot was inspired by Autumn, my favourite season and my affection for a bohemian wedding style. I wanted to show that this look isn’t only restricted to couples having their wedding outdoors or in a Big Top marquee. It can be adapted to suit most settings. So I decided to create a look that combined the elegance and refinement of a country house wedding juxtaposed with the relaxed, informal feel of a bohemian style wedding.
I only had to venture a few hundred yards down the road for my chosen venue for this shoot as it happens to be my husband’s childhood home. A beautiful 300 year old Georgian country house with creaky floorboards, beautiful antiques and brimming with character, it was the perfect setting for the look I had envisioned for the shoot.
Taking inspiration from Mother Nature, I wanted to created a ‘Nature Goddess’ ethereal look. The stunning gown worn by our beautiful model Lauren is an Inbal Dror creation from Kathy De Stafford in Howth, Co Dublin that belongs to a dear friend who wore it for her own wedding.
My sister Corinne, a make up artist, created my desired make up look for the shoot. Nothing traditional for this bridal look – a smokey eye and a nude peach lip using MAC products.
I made the ‘twig crown’ to convey that ‘Nature Goddess’ vibe out of twigs and leaves spray painted with gold. A Bride not restricted by convention or tradition – happy to do her own thing in her own style.
Instead of using rich, deeper Autumnal tones, I wanted a softer palette of peaches and creams with metallic touches in gold and bronze inspired by the dappled sunlight of an Autumn evening mixed with the deep rich greens of the foliage that comes into its own at this time of year…
My go-to florist Pat from Carlow Florist created the beautiful organic florals I wanted for this look. Garlands of ivy and trailing foliage with willow branches, stunning peach and apricot roses, spray roses and alstroemeria. Floral styling was kept natural, organic and unstructured to evoke that relaxed yet elegant feel.
A whiskey bar arranged on an antique drinks trolley is set up on the lawn draped with organic foliage providing guests with an array of whiskey offerings and warm apple and cinnamon cocktails.
In a stately drawing room inside the house, a tablescape of crumpled muslin, a floor sweeping garland of ivy, willow branches, pheasant feathers, peach and cream florals mixed with mis-matched gold candlesticks sits atop an antique Oak table. Mother of Pearl cutlery, twinkling crystal glassware and fresh pear place settings complete the elegant yet relaxed look.
Antonella from Magva Design & Letterpress created the beautiful paper goods I envisioned for the look. A simple, rustic-yet-elegant invitation suite letterpressed on textural cotton rag paper with a beautiful handwritten style font. I added a gold leaf liner for a touch of sparkle and beautiful grosgrain ribbon from A.Rubanesque. A hand stamped wax seal from GetMarked adds a luxury olde world feel.
I asked Jasmine from Artful Bakery to create a cake and some yummy treats for the shoot which I can tell you tasted just as good as they look! I wanted a textural cake in a delicate peach colour in keeping with the overall rustic theme but I wanted to incorporate that luxe feel with the dusting of gold leaf.
I chose some beautiful, nature-inspired hand-made jewellery from Chupi to complete the bohemian-feel bridal look. The Drop in the Wild gemstone ring in Citrine is this boho bride’s unconventional engagement ring.
I loved working on this shoot and had the most amazing team. I hope you enjoy looking through some more of Christina’s beautiful shots in the gallery on the site.
